Zoe Saldana was born on June 19, 1978 in Passaic, New Jersey, to Asalia Nazario and Aridio Saldana. Her father was Dominican and her mother is Puerto Rican. She was born in Queens, New York. The family she was born into moved to Dominican Republic at the age of 10, and there they would spend the next seven year. As they remained in the country, Zoe discovered a keen passion for performance dancing and began her training at the world-class ECOS Espacio de Danza Dance Academy where she learned ballet as well as other forms of dance. It was a fantastic way to exercise an energetic youngster. However, it turned out to also be a lucky precursor for the beginning of her career as a professional. Zoe and family returned to the United States with Zoe at 17, and her passion for theatre performance and dance grew.
